To those who are considering applying for the JENESYS program…Don’t hesitate!! This program will forever change your life in the many friendships you make, the cultural experiences you encounter and will help enhance your confidence in Japanese from the language training you receive!
Having been fortunate to receive this once in a life time opportunity to study in Japan, if I could sum it up in one word, it would be…UNFORGETTABLE! The Staff at the Kansai Center from the day you arrive are fantastic! They are always happy and willing to help. Students in the centre are all learning Japanese; it is a fantastic opportunity to meet people from around the world and to also practice your Japanese with native speakers and fellow students!
Lessons you undertake are structured around topics that you can relate to no matter what age (such as work, marriage, studies etc), which encourages you to participate and express your opinions and compare them with people from around the world and to compare your own with that of Japan. A placement test ensures you are placed in a class that appropriate for you.
The Center organizes trips to Tokyo, Kyoto and Hiroshima…and especially for those who have never been to Japan before, it is a fantastic way to experience Japan first hand! Trips to museums in these places helped in learning more about Japan’s history.
Cultural activities such as Wadaiko (Japanese drums) and Tanabata (Star Festival) helped me experience and understand more the wonderful culture of Japanese people.
The Center also organized visits to a primary school, a home stay visit and visits to Universities; these trips give you the chance to practice your Japanese (and learn a LOT of Kansai-ben!). This also gives you the chance to make friends with many students who you can keep in touch with once you return home!
The following photos are only a taste of the cultural experiences you receive when there, and I encourage all those who want to enhance their language skills, make tonnes of friends and learn more about Japan and the world to apply! You will not regret it! You are well looked after with great food and rooms supplied, and in your free time can explore the surrounding towns and cities!?
