This grant provides pre-eminent scholars, doctoral candidates and researchers in the fields of humanities and social sciences with the opportunity to conduct research in Japan.

Grant Program for Japanese Studies Projects
Applications for JFY2017-18 are now closed. The next round (JFY 2018-2019) will be open around October.
 
This program is designed to promote Japanese studies overseas by supporting Japanese Studies at non-profit academic and research institutions. Eligible projects include projects that focus specifically on Japanese Studies (e.g., survey projects, conferences, publications), resource acquisition of Japanese Studies materials for libraries, and visiting professorships.

Grant Program for Intellectual Exchange Conferences
Applications for JFY2017-18 are now closed. The next round (JFY 2018-2019) will be open around October.
 
This grant provides support to academic and research institutions and non-government organisations to partially fund collaborative intellectual projects such as international conferences. Themes must address challenges that concern both Japan and other countries, and participants from Japan must play a significant role in the dialogues.

Success rate for JFY2016-17: 3 out of 4 applications.
